Poetry Friday: Frustrated

November 12th, 2010

We have another great student poem on this Poetry Friday from fourth-grader Kevin, who wrote about being frustrated during a reading activity about character traits. The poem appears in Charles Fuhrken’s recent book, What Every Elementary Teacher Needs to Know About Reading Tests.

by Kevin

My name is frustrated.
Today was a mad day.
Getting ready for school today, I did not talk to
anyone while eating breakfast.
At recess, I yelled at all my friends and told
everybody to be quiet.
At lunch, I couldn’t eat my lunch because it was
some chaos.
During spelling class, I could not spell any word
because my pencil broke and when I came back
from sharpening it was over.
That is what life is like when your’re frustrated.

This is ultra-fabulous. Am so inspired to help my sons be that articulate about their feelings. What a way to vent! Heavens, that’s beautiful. Going to check out the book pronto!
