Peek inside “The Castle”

February 3rd, 2011

If you are a teacher of young learners, we hope you had a chance to pick up a copy of Ranu Bhattacharyya’s recent book, The Castle in the Classroom: Story as a Springboard for Early Literacy. In it you will not only find ideas, resources, and inspiration, but also a wealth of images of student work and classroom snapshots.

“In this current climate of testing and academics, I’m struck by how Ranu’s classroom is so alive,” writes Georgia Heard in the Foreword to the book. “She gives her children the freedom to learn the way they do best — by playing, discovering, pretending, and exploring.”

The images that capture all the activity in Ranu’s classroom and the work her students create are in black and white in the print book. But we just posted a slideshow of all of the images from Ranu’s book in full color on our website. Head over and take in the excitement and playfulness of Ranu’s classroom.
