Stenhouse is Heading to ILA, NOLA 2019!

Our Stenhouse staff is gearing up to head to New Orleans for the annual International Literacy Association Conference 2019. Here’s a rundown of all the exciting activities we have planned in the booth this year! Be sure to come visit us.



New Professional Resources

Head on over to our booth and get your hands on some of the newest fall resources. Here’s what you’ll find.

  • Patterns of Power Plus, Grades 1–5 by Jeff Anderson and Whitney La Rocca. Patterns of Power Plus are grade-level specific minilessons to help bring Jeff and Whitney's invitational process to grammar instruction to life in just 10 minutes daily.
  • Patterns of Power, en español: Inviting Bilingual Writers into the Conventions of Spanish by Jeff Anderson and Whitney La Rocca, Spanish Adaptation by Caroline Sweet.  Jeff and Whitney partnered with bilingual literacy coach, Caroline Sweet to create Patterns of Power, en español — 53 Spanish-language grammar lesson sets for grades, 1–5
  • Start with Joy: Designing Literacy Learning for Student Happiness by Katie Cunningham. In this beautiful book, Katie gives us ideas on how to incorporate literacy instruction with the science of happiness to make learning more memorable and meaningful.
  • Next Steps with Academic Conversations: New Ideas for Improving Learning Through Classroom Talk by Dr. Jeff Zwiers. This resource is the product of his extensive research, co-teaching, and collaborating with a wide range of educators. It was written for busy teachers who want a practical guide for strengthening the quality and quantity of productive conversations in their lessons.
  • From Curiosity to Deep Learning: Personal Digital Inquiry in Grades K-5 by Julie Coiro, Elizabeth Dobler, and Karen Pelekis. This information-packed book shows you how to uncover the powerful learning that can happen when you integrate purposeful technology into a classroom culture that values curiosity. 

Free Access Lenses Poster

With a quick scan of the badge, you can get this free poster that accompanies the popular book by Trevor Bryan, The Art of Comprehension, can be yours for free!  These Access Lenses, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds,  are Trevor's signature method for enhancing students’ understanding and thinking about all texts—both written and visual. By using these “access lenses” (such as faces, body language, sound/silence) you can prompt all your students to become active explorers and meaning-makers.
